Baby acne

Baby acne is a common skin condition that affects many newborns, typically appearing as tiny red or white bumps on the face, particularly the cheeks, nose, and forehead. While it can be surprising to see these blemishes on your little one’s soft skin, baby acne is harmless and temporary, usually resolving on its own within weeks or months.
So what causes baby acne?
The exact cause of baby acne isn’t fully understood, but it’s believed to be influenced by hormones. During pregnancy, maternal hormones pass to the baby, which may stimulate their underdeveloped oil glands. This can result in the appearance of acne, especially during the first few weeks of life.
How to care for baby acne?
Baby acne doesn’t require any special treatment and often clears up naturally. However, there are simple ways to support your baby’s skin and avoid irritation:
Keep the Skin Clean: Gently wash your baby’s face daily with warm water and a soft washcloth. Avoid scrubbing, which can irritate sensitive skin.
Avoid Harsh Products Do not use adult acne treatments, soaps, or lotions on your baby’s skin, as these can cause further irritation. Stick to mild, fragrance-free products designed for babies.
Pat the Skin Dry: After cleaning, gently pat your baby’s skin dry with a soft towel instead of rubbing.
Don’t Squeeze or Pick: It might be tempting, but squeezing or picking at baby acne can irritate the skin and potentially cause infection.
When to seek medical help:
Baby acne is usually harmless, but if you notice other symptoms, such as swelling, yellow discharge, or if the acne persists beyond a few months, consult a doctor to rule out other skin conditions like eczema or an infection.
Baby acne is a natural part of newborn development and a temporary phase. With gentle care, your baby’s skin will soon return to being soft and blemish free.
